Alessia Cara has the anthem for us all

The song that’s finally been sung that speaks every word that has been embedded into my head. The life stories and lack of self-worth inside of them, that are constantly circling inside of my head. Alessia Cara has poured out every word that we’ve all needed to hear for years now. I’ve never been on to turn to self harm for my battles with my self image but, I did turn to a ‘I don’t care’ attitude. Its followed me for years in each, school, friends, and relationships. After years of being disregarded for how I looked and acted, I stopped believing in love and being happy with someone. Change is upon us

Right now, I’m sitting in my old basketball sweats, sporting two fashionable braids, bumping Haliee Steinbecks latest hit, ‘I love Myself’, while watching the highlights of this year’s Emmy awards. Sounds like the perfect relaxing Sunday evening right? Wrong. While even though I’m correctly in the best setting, I’m still consumed by the thoughts of the many things that need to be accomplished this week. Work is never done and it’s never over but progress can be made and goals can be achieved. The wonderful and talented, Viola Davis, has just be named the first Black Woman to win an Emmy Award for Leading Actress in a Drama series, for her role in the hit television show, How To Get Away with Murder. If you may or may not know, the ‘television’ business isn’t made generally for a woman of color. Leading roles aren’t generally made for us.
